Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
On Tuesday morning, a bike rider suffered severe injuries in a road accident on the national highway in Kadamtala Goalpara area of Raiganj. The aftermath of the incident saw local residents taking to the streets in protest, blocking the national highway to highlight growing concerns over road safety in the region.
According to reports, the bike rider reportedly fell abruptly between a bus and a lorry, with the lorry's wheel passing over his leg. Quick action by bystanders led to the injured being rushed to the district hospital for medical attention. In response to the accident, aggrieved locals staged a protest, barricading the national highway as an expression of frustration and concern.
Local residents voiced grievances about the deteriorating condition of the national highway, claiming that the poor state of the road infrastructure has become a breeding ground for daily accidents. Allegations surfaced that authorities have turned a blind eye to the issue, heightening the risk of more significant accidents in the future.
Prompted by news of the protest, the police intervened, and after hours of negotiation and assurance from law enforcement, the demonstrators called off the protest.
